Reverse electrodialysis (RED) is a technique to generate a sustainable energy from two solutions with different salinity. In general, RED produce the electricity from salinity-gradients between seawater and river water. RED stack is consisted of two electrode, an anode and a cathode, and a series of alternating anion exchange membranes (AEMs) and cation exchange membranes (CEMs) situated between two electrodes. The key components in a RED system are the membrane, electrode material, rinse solution and spacers. In recent, studies were mainly focused on membranes, electrode materials and electrolyte. Less attention has been given to the selection of the spacer system with very few exceptions. In this study, we introduce a new dynamic power generation concept. The unique aspect of this new concept is the use of ion conductive spacer within rinse solution for RED system. |
