Enhanced Cell Efficiency with Hyperbranched Polyglycerol Incorporated Gel Electrolyte for Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSCs) |

The gel electrolyte is the prominent type of electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), because it has high and almost comparable ion conductivity with liquid electrolyte and is free from the critical problems such as leakage and evaporation. To improve the ion conductivity, herein, we prepared the novel hybrid gel electrolyte involving SiO2 nanoparticle and hyperbranched polyglycerol (HPG) in solvent mixtures. SiO2 nanoparticle was applied to the liquid electrolyte as a gelation agent which minimization of ion conductivity decrease, and HPG was used as an additive in compensation for the reduced ion conductivity by gelation. The hybrid gel electrolyte was subjected to electrochemical analysis, and applied to fabricate DSSCs unit cell for evaluation of the long-term stability and the favorable energy-conversion efficiency. The improved performance of cell with HPG incorporated gel electrolyte can be attributed to building a transfer channel and promoting the ion dissociation. |
