Inhibition of bacterial adhesion on poly(oxyethylene) derivative surfaces with well ordered structures |
초록 |
The surfaces of poly(oxyethylene)s having alkylsulfonyl side groups were found to be more effective to reduce the adhesion of Pseudomonas aeruginosa than those of common materials such as poly(styrene), poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(dimethylsiloxane), fluorinated polyacrylate, and glass. The inhibition ability to the bacterial adhesion of poly(oxyethylene) surfaces was originated from the optimum surface energies in the range of 20-22 mN/m to give maximum antifouling surface properties proposed by Baier. When the poly(oxyethylene) derivative was mixed with polystyrene and polymethylmethacrylate, the surfaces of the mixtures show different topology and roughness according to the compositions. However, the surface energy of the mixtures were found to be almost identical with that of the poly(oxyethylene) derivative and the inhibition property against the bacterial adhesion on the mixture surfaces were also almost identical with that on the surface of the poly(oxyethylene) derivative. |
