Magnetorheological fluid (MR) is well known for its characteristics altered by external magnetic field. MR fluid is comprised of magnetic particles such as carbonyl iron (CI), which change formation reversibly under the external magnetic field, and non-magnetic medium. Despite controllable features, MR fluid has a sedimentation drawback due to the high density of CI. Because of this defect, many researchers try to solve the sedimentation problem. in MR fluid. In this study, we fabricated xanthan gum/CI composite materials to improve the sedimentation problem. The morphology of materials was confirmed via scanning electron microscope (SEM) images. Dispersion stability was observed by a Turbiscan. It is expected that xanthan gum/CI composites improve the sedimentation drawback of the MR fluid. Rheological properties of the MR fluid were observed via a rotational rheometer with typical MR characteristics of yield stress and shear viscosity. |
