Double-layered polymer electrolyte membranes for electrochemical applications |

Polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) have been widely used in a variety of electrochemical applications such as fuel cells, water and saline water electrolyses, redox flow batteries, and revere electrodialyses, since they show fast transport capability to specific ions and/or water molecules and excellent processability for electrochemical cell formations. PEMs play an important role in determining their energy efficiency and operation lifetime. In spite of their advantages, PEM materials are needed to be tuned for improving their electrochemical performances and system durability. One good example to achieve these purposes may be double-layered polymer electrolyte membranes, which are composed of ionomers with different chemical ingredients. In this study, double-layered polymer electrolyte membranes with perfluorinated and/or hydrocarbon ionomers are prepared, characterized, and evaluated as saline water electrolysis membranes. |
