The mesoporous silica SBA-15 has high superficial areas and large uniform pores. Their silica wall surface can be modified with organic groups to tailor their properties and achieve specific purposes. Also, the modified SBA-15 has the regular pore canal structure and uniform distribution of functional groups on the pore surface. We have successfully synthesized and modified SBA-15 using melamine and chlorosulfonic acid in chloroform. The SBA-15-NH-SO3H was used for the sorption of metal ion in waste water. Compared to SBA-15, metal ion adsorption ability of SBA-15-NH-SO3H increased. It was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray Photoelectron Spectrometer, N adsorption-desorption isotherm, Inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscope, Small Angle X-ray Scattering, and Transmission electron microscopy. The sorption of metal ions onto sulphonic acid modified SBA-15 were strongly dependent on the chemical interactions and chelating effects. |
