Silver/Polymer Hybrid Materials Prepared Using Highly Open Porous Polymer Microspheres |

We introduce a simple method to prepare porous metal/polymer hybrid microspheres via mussel-inspired polydopamine chemistry. Highly open porous poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) microspheres are prepared by a single oil-in-water emulsion solvent evaporation technique using Pluronic F127 as an extractable porogen. Polydopamine is coated on the internal pore surfaces of the microspheres via the oxidative polymerization of dopamines, which mediates the spontaneous reduction of silver nitrates into solid Ag nanoparticles within the pores of the microspheres. We expect that the functional metal/polymer hybrid microspheres can be utilized for antimicrobial materials. |
