The poly(2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate)(PHEMA)-based hydrogels are widely used in the biomaterial field due to its easy oxygen permeability, good water transmission and absorption, high biocompatibility and non-toxicity. Also, PEG have received wide use as biomedical materials. A series of copolymeric hydrogels based on 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA) and poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether metacrylate(MPEG) with different chain length were synthesized by radical polymerization. Swelling behaviors of these hydrogels are studied. The increased weight fraction and molecular weight of MPEG in copolymer resulted in higher equilibrium water content(EWC), which might be caused by the increasing hydrophilicity and pore-size of the hydrogel matirx. |
