Now a day, BaTiO3-polymer composites have been of great interest as embedded capacitor materials because they combine processability of polymer matrix with a high dielectricity of BaTiO3. Very recently, we have succeeded to prepare crystalline BaTiO3, which might be helpful in making BaTiO3-polymer composites, at very low temperature (~65oC) in methanol medium. Ba(OH)2.H2O and Ti(OPri)4 with different Ba/Ti molar ratio was reacted in methanol under refluxing condition for several hours and then the product was isolated by using high speed centrifuge followed by thorough washing with methanol. All the samples were characterized by using XRD, FTIR spectroscopy. The microstructures of the samples studied by SEM and TEM further supported the existence of BaTiO3 in the polycrystalline form. The formation of crystalline BaTiO3 and the growth of the crystalline particles were studied in terms of reaction time, and the Ba/Ti molar ratio. Crystalline sizes of the BaTiO3 were calculated from the XRD results, while the average particle sizes and their distributions were studied by dynamic light scattering method. The dispersion behavior of the crystalline BaTiO3 in different organic solvents was also studied. |
