Effects of processing conditions on the physical properties of nylon6,6/clay nanocomposites |

Effects of processing conditions on the physical properties of nylon6,6 containing clay nanoparticles were investigated in terms of screw rotation speed and mixing time. Incorporation of clay nanoparticles(5 wt%) increased crystalline temperature of nylon6,6 (ca. 7 oC) and produced a sharper crystalline peak. The wide-angle X-ray diffraction scans of nylon6,6/clay nanocomposites showed not only reduction of intensity at 2θ value of 20.1o but also appearance of the new peak at 13o. The dynamic viscosity of nanocomposites got higher as screw speed increased under constant mixing time. Nylon6,6/clay nanocomposites prepared at 90 rpm showed notable shear thickening and abrupt increase of storage modulus in low frequency region. The shear-induced crystallization of the nanocomposites exhibited that the samples prepared at lower screw speed shortened the induction times for isothermal crystallization. Addition of clay nanoparticles increased tensile modulus and decreased the ductility. |
