Poly(lactic acid) (PLA), one of the most important biodegradable polymers, was reinforced with bleached red algae fiber(BRAF) to manufacture a completely biodegradable biocomposite. Biocomposites were manufactured with different fiber loading from 30wt% to 60wt% by compression molding and dynamic mechanical and thermal properties were investigated. The dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of the PLA matrix and bleached red algae fiber reinforced PLA biocomposites were analyzed by DMA, TGA and TMA and compared to those of BRAF reinforced polypropylene(PP) biocomposites. The PLA/BRAF biocomposites showed the similar dynamic mechanical properties to PP/BRAF of 4.78 at -30℃. From the analysis of dynamic mechanical and thermal properties of biocomposites, we conclude that BRAF/PLA biocomposite can be used for an alternative BRAF/PP biocomposite as a completely biodegradable and environmentally friendly biocomposite. |
