The silane-crosslinked polyethylene (S-XLPE) does not dissolve in solvents and melt by heat due to the crosslinked network structure. Therefore, it is very difficult to reuse such a crosslinked resin. Most of waste crosslinked polyethylene have been incinerated or disposed of in landfills. We investigated the method to recover thermoplastic polyethylene (decrosslinking) from silane-crosslinked polyethylene cables using supercritical methanol. Moreover, we compounded decrosslinked S-XLPE with LLDPE which is a base resin of S-XLPE cable in order to testifiy reuse of recycled S-XLPE.The degree of cross-linking, physical, thermal, structucture and rheological properties of products were analyzed using DSC,TGA,FTIR,Tensile and Impact tester and Physica UDS.Successful recycling of Silane-crosslinked polyethylene was achieved by supercritical fluids and compounding process. |
