Phospholipid-b-Poly(Amino Acid)s Synthesized by Ring Opening Polymerization and its Self-assembling Behavior |

Herein we report on the synthesis of various poly(amino acid)s with phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) as a initiator. PE was extracted from soybean lecithin that was successfully purified by flash chromatography. The series of phospholipid-b-poly(amino acid)s were synthesized by the ring opening polymerization of the N-carboxy anhydrides (NCA) of various amino acids. The synthetic approach yields a series of polymers with different amino acid monomer but with similar molecular weight of around 2000. PE-b-poly(amino acid)s based amphiphilic lipid micelles have been fabricated by self-assembly process using solubility difference toward solvents. Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic techniques (NMR) were used to characterize each product. The morphologies and diameters of micelles were observed by transmission electron microscope (TEM). |
