Poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) is widely used for cathode binder materials in lithium secondary batteries owing to their suitable electrochemical window, chemical stability, and solubility. It is known that adjusting molecular weight of PVDF is important to have proper solution viscosity and binding strength. In this research, PVDF was produced by suspension polymerization. The reaction temperature and pressure was monitored during polymerization. The obtained PVDF is characterized with nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), gel permeation (GPC), scanning electron microsope (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Peel test, swelling test, and cell test of electrodes with the obtained PVDF binder were also conducted. |
