Among H2 separation technologies, membrane technology has received attention owing to eco-friendliness, high energy efficiency, and low operation cost. Most H2-selective membrane materials are difficult to apply commercially because of their low permeance. Therefore, it is necessary to manufacture them as a thin film composite (TFC) membrane. There are methods for manufacturing TFC such as spin coating, bar coating, and dip coating, and most of these are coated on a polymer support. However, in these methods, polymer support can be damaged by the coating solution because H2-selective polymer and polymer support have similar solubility in organic solvents. In this study, a thin film was prepared on the water surface using the water-casting method, and then transferred onto a polymer support to prepare a TFC membrane. The water-casted TFC membrane showed high H2 permeance and H2/CH4 selectivity of approximately 190 GPU and 100, respectively. Furthermore, as a result of the H2/CH4 mixed gas test, H2 of >99 mol% was obtained. |
