A liquid crystal embedded PVdF-co-HFP-based quasi-solid state electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cell applications |

Liquid crystal (LC) embedded poly(vinylidenefluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-co-HFP) based quasi solid state electrolytes have been used for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Electrolyte contains 1-methyl-3-propylimidazolium iodide (PMII), tetrabutylammonium iodide (TBAI), iodine (I2) as the source of redox couple (I3-/I-) and the quasi solid state electrolyte behavior was improved by the addition of optimized plasticizer contents such as ethylene carbonate (EC) and propylene carbonate (PC) in an acetonitrile. We have fabricated DSSCs and employed liquid crystal (E7 and/or ML-0249) embedded quasi solid state electrolyte between the amphiphilic ruthenium dye (N719) adsorbed nanocrystalline TiO2 photoanode and Pt counter electrode. Consequently, the liquid crystal embedded polymer based quasi solid state electrolytes showed higher photocurrent, photovoltage and effiency than the only PVdF-HFP based electlolyte. |
