Recent Progress in Developing Low Band-Gap Polymers Alternated with Donor/Acceptor Units for Photovoltaic Cells |

Recently organic semiconductors have been drastically developed for solar cell application because of their advantages such as low cost, light weight, flexibility and facile processing and manipulation. Some serious limitations for present solar cell devices are due to the relatively low mobility of charge carriers in the organic semiconductors and the narrow absorption bands. One of widely used approaches in order to solve these problems is developing push-pull polymers with alternating electron rich and electron poor units. Our group has been also pursuing to design and synthesize new low band-gap polymers based on benzodithienothiophene molecules with different donors for tuning their band-gaps and improving photovoltaic performance. The power conversion efficiencies of the synthesized polymers were achieved over 1.5% under illumination of AM 1.5 (1000 W m-2) from a solar simulator. |
