The Effect of Toxic Gases on TEDA Impregnated Activated Carbon |

Air Cleaning Unit (ACU) in Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is used for indoor air quality improvement. This study was conducted to investigate the effect of toxic gases on TEDA impregnated activated carbon (TEDA-AC) used for removing gaseous iodine. Eight toxic gases were used in the breakthrough test, and the test was carried out at a flow rate corresponding to a residence time of 0.5 seconds for each toxic gas. The concentration of toxic gas was measured periodically at the upstream and downstream of the packed TEDA-AC column, and the adsorption amount was measured until the TEDA-AC was saturated with the toxic gas. The samples that saturated with some toxic gases such as formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, SO2 and NO2 showed TEDA content was decreased by about 1.5%. Even though the toxic gases can be physically adsorbed on the TEDA-AC, these gases also might be chemically adsorbed on the TEDA itself that can reduce the TEDA on the surface of AC. |
