In this work, we studied a new method for blocking defects using dye molecules. The dye molecules cannot flow into the zeolitic pore but flow only into the defects of the zeolite. Through this method, the CO2 permselectivity can be enhanced. We chose SSZ-13 zeolite membrane to confirm the separation performance change. After defect healing using dye molecules, the permeances of each component decreased and the CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 separation factors increased. This is because the defect is filled with the dye molecules, so they prevent permeation of gas through the non-zeolitic pores. In order to understand the effect of H2O in the feed, the experiment was carried out by gradually increasing the partial pressure of water at 50 °C. In the wet condition, the presence of some defects in the membrane helps to improve the CO2 separation performance, while the defects and separation performance are inversely proportional to each other in the dry condition. |
