Zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) membranes are promising for H2-selective membrane used for water gas shift (WSG) reactions because of their high processability and thermal stability. In this work, ZIF-8 membrane was synthesized via the in-situ counter diffusion method (CD method). To control the diffusion rate, we synthesized a ZIF-8 membrane using two kinds of supports. We used alpha alumina disc (ZIF-8A), and an alpha alumina disc coated with gamma alumina (ZIF-8GA). As a result, ZIF-8A formed on the support, and ZIF-8GA embedded inside the pores of the gamma alumina layer. Both type of membranes exhibited good hydrogen separation performance and persisted at 200 and 250 °C for up to 72 h, However, at 300 °C, performance decreased after 2 hours for ZIF-8A and 10 hours for ZIF-8GA. It is because ZIF-8 membranes protected by the gamma alumina layer. |
