Carbon nanostructures, carbon nanotube (CNT) and graphene, have received a considerable amount of attention due to their unique physical and chemical properties. Graphene, a two-dimensional single layer of graphite, have received considerable attention as catalyst supports in both heterogeneous catalysis and electrocatalysis due to their extraordinary electronic, thermal, and mechanical properties. In this study, we prepared Au-decorated graphene by depositing the Au precursors on thiolated graphene surfaces. The resulting samples were characterized with scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman and X-ray photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). This synthetic approach should be broadly applicable for preparing graphene-supported metal catalysts and markedly improves the catalytic activity. |
