Programmable High Contrast Dual Electrochromic Polymer Windows |

Electrochromic devices (ECDs) having a fast response, high color contrast, and long stability have been developed through the combination of charge control over materials and device structure. Despite many studies on ECD materials, few examples have been reported on the implementations of more than two colored state in one material. In our recent work, we have shown a high color contrast and stable EC polymers. With an electrochemically isomerable azine-link, the polymer showed dual color states at two different applied potentials. Thus EC response including color change of the electrochemically isomerable polymer film showed multiple optical states according to the redox state of azine linked conjugated polymers. Taking advantage of the distinct EC response at the different potential ranges, EC colors could be programmed to show multiple transitions of colors. Synthesis of polymers and working mechanism of programmable EC states based on the dual color EC polymers will be presented. |
