Incorporation of reactive group into polymer branch is an efficient way to design new types of functional polymers such as hyperbranched polymers and brush-types polymers. Particular emphasis is placed on the strategy of developing copolymers with variable number of unsaturated groups that can be utilized for further functionalization. To compare the characterization of functional polymers of random and block copolymers, we synthesized random and block copolymers of propylene oxide with allyl glycidyl ether (AGE) by using double metal cyanide catalyst. Functionalization of AGE chain was achieved by a two step involving sequentially : double bonds epoxidation and production of brush-types polymer with hydroxyl and unsaturated group in the presence unsaturated fatty acid from soybean oil. The polymers were characterized by using various techniques such as Fourier-infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, GPC, thermogravimetric analysis, DSC and UV-visible spectroscopy. |
