The Study on the Properties of Thermoplastic Polyurethane/Clay Nanocomposites |

Thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs)/clay nanocomposites were prepared via solution method. The polyester and polyether based TPUs were used to prepare nanocomposites with organically modified clay (C30B, MMT-OH) in DMAc. We investigated the effect of the solvent on the dispersion of clay layers in solution method. XRD and TEM were taken to investigate the morphology of the nanocomposites. From XRD and TEM results, the silicate layers of MMT-OH and C30B were nearly exfoliated and well dispersed in nanometer-scale in ether and ester based TPU matrix when nanocomposites were prepared in DMAc solution. MMT-OH showed better dispersion than C30B in DMAc. The tensile properties of nanocomposites with MMT-OH were better than C30B. |
