Domain size and shape are very important characteristics for rubber toughened polymeric materials, such as HIPS (High-Impact Polystyrene), ABS (Acrylonitrile/Butadiene/Styrene), ASA (Acrylonitrile /Styrene/Acrylate). It has been well known that it is possible to make various domain size and shape of rubber phase according to composition, viscosity ratio of rubber phase and matrix, shear, interfacial tension, etc. Besides those conventional methods for controlling domain size and shape of rubber domain, we report novel methods for changing domain size and shape, which are based on the reaction between carboxylated poly(butyl acrylate) and di-ol during matrix formation. For those reactions and matrix formation occur independently, it is expected to modify surface characteristics of matrix resin. |
