Nano-sized, dextran-coated iron oxide(IO) particles were prepared by a precipitation method. Dextran-coated nanoparticles were dispersed in poly (ethylene oxide)(PEO) solution. The fibers were electrospun at a flow rate of 0.2 ml/h, an applied voltage of 22 kV and a capillary to target distance of 20 cm. The ratio of the dextran-coated IO particles to PEO dispersed in water was varied from 0%, 20%, 40% and 60%. The structure and properties of PEO containing dextran-coated particles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy(SEM), transmission electro microscopy(TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and X-ray diffracton(XRD). SEM was used to evaluate the morphology of electrospun fibers. TEM were also used to characterize whether dextran-coated nanoparticles were well dispersed in electrospun fibers and XPS was used to confirm whether nanoparticles are completely encapsulated in the fibers. XRD was used to show whether the dextran-coated particles existed in the fibers. |
