Optical Properties of Surfactant-mediated Nanoporous PMMA Film |

We prepared nanoporous polymer films by using surfactant as porogen in order to control the refractive index of the optical waveguide materials. Nanoporous films were prepared by spin-coating of the PMMA solution containing sodium dodecyl-benzenesulfonate(NaDDBS) at concentrations higher than the critical micelle concentration (CMC). Nanosized pores were created by removing NaDDBS micelles in de-ionized water. The structure of the nanoporous films was characterized by FT-IR and FE-SEM. The refractive index of the PMMA optical waveguide, given by an average over the film, was shown to be controlled by changing the amount of the surfactant. The refractive index of the nanoporous film was decreased with an increase in the pore volume. |
