Graphene-Au nanoparticle composite counter electrodes for cobalt redox mediator based dye-sensitized solar cells |

Few layered graphene (G) with different loading of Au nanoparticles (Au NPs) composite counter electrodes were prepared by simple solution method followed by a post thermal treatment at 800 °C under argon atmosphere. Excellent catalytic integrity and high optical transmittance of ~79.9 % were observed. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed the lower charge transfer resistance (Rct) of G-Au NPs based electrodes compared to that of reference Pt electrodes. Graphene composite electrode with 30 nM Au NPs showed 6.55% higher conversion efficiency (η = 1.79%) and 200 mV higher open circuit voltage (0.60 V) compared to the cells fabricated with standard Pt electrodes. |
