제목 Mechanical Reinforcement of Thermoset Epoxy Polymers Using Silica Aerogels.
초록 Epoxy-aerogel nanocomposites were investigated for their mechanical properties as a function of silica aerogel loading. Silica aerogels are highly porous materials consisting of more than 90% air and less than 10% solid silica in the form of highly cross-linked network structure. Using cheap sodium silicate as a silica source, hydrophobic silica aerogels were synthesized via an ambient drying process with ethoxytrimethylsilane. The silica aerogels were readily dispersed in the epoxy resin (EPON 828) and the epoxy-aerogel mixtures were cross-linked with Jeffamines (D-230 and D-2000 for glassy and rubbery epoxy polymer, respectively). The resulting thermoset epoxy-aerogel nanocomposites exhibit enhanced mechanical properties with no or little sacrifice of thermal properties.
