Lithium-ion batteries are diversifying the application area from mobile IT devices to electric vehicles or electric energy storage systems. Accordingly, higher capacity, power capability and better cycling stability are required. In line with these requirements, cathode materials with high performances have been developed. Recently, Ni-rich layer structured cathode materials with high capacity are used in commercial lithium-ion batteries. However, they are suffering from poor cycling stability and power capability. To overcome these problems, a lot of technologies including surface coating or doping have been suggested. In this review, some representative technologies for improvement of cathode materials are introduced and surface coating with lithium-ion conductor including LATP and LSP is discussed. |
