Propanol
원료 | Propylene |
생산물 | propanol |
적용 | To produce isopropanol (IPA, isopropyl alcohol) from propylene by hydration. |
설명 | Description: Feed with more than 90% propylene can be admitted directly to a trickle-flow reactor (1). Lower purity feed is upgraded in the propylene recovery column (2). The feed plus water passes several catalyst beds of acidic resin within the reactor. Water is a reactor quench for temperature control. About 75% of the propylene is hydrated to IPA. which accumulates as an aqueous solution in the reactor bottoms. The reactor bottoms go to a flash separator (3) to remove vapors of unreacted hydrocarbons and byproduct isopropyl ether. These vapors are routed to the propylene recovery column (2) where overhead propylene is recycled to the reactor and bottoms go to another column (4) to be separated into residual propane overhead and isopropyl ether bottoms. The aqueous IPA solution from the bottom of the flash separator (3) goes to azeotrope drying (5,6) which uses isopropyl ether as an entrainer. Water from the decanter (7) is stripped (8) and returned to the reactor via the drier (5) and water treating (9). Yields: IPA by this scheme contains some 5% isopropyl ether but less than 1% other oranic compounds, mainly hexenes and oxygenates. Other give much higher purity IPA. |
