적용 To produce polystyrene from styrene and other ingredients using the NORSOLOR/Badger Polystyrene process.
설명 Description: This is a continuous mass polymerization process for the production of various grades (ranging from high heat to high flow) of crystal, impact and high-impact polystyrene suitable for most applications, including injection, extrusion, thermoforming and direct gassing.
   For impact grades, rubber and additives are dissolved in styrene and transferred to a feedstock tank (1) for continuous feeding to a prepolymerizer (2) specifically designed to obtain an optimum use of rubber. For crystal grades, styrene and additives are blended continuously and added directly to the propolymerizer. This critical prepolymerization section accurately controls the rate and degree of reaction to maintain final product qualities. The partly polymerized mass is continuously pumped to a polymerization tower (3).
   The polymerized mass is further heated (4) and passed to a devolatilizer (5). The equipment operating conditions and design assure low residual-monomer content, meeting food-packaging-grade requirements.
   The devolatilizer melt passses through a heated die (6); the formed strands are then cooled (7), dried (8), pelletized (9) and screened (10) prior to transfer of the finished pellets to inspection silos. The final product is transferred to bulk storage and packging facilities.
