Using programmed hierarchical superstructures and self-assembly control of supramolecular dyes with various dimensions, we developed amphiphilic azobenzene organic dye (A1GC) with metallic gold coloration. During the recrystallization process, large clustered powdery textures with smooth surfaces are formed by merging small powder crystals from the morphological and diffraction study. The A1GC crystal offered the sharp contrast between intensive light absorption and reflection, resulting in the metallic gold coloration. We can produce organic paintable dyes with brilliant gold color by the combination of hierarchical superstructures and chemical functionalities. When A1GC thin film crystals are blended with polymers (Poly vinyl alcohol) to produce the composite materials, A1GC can be used in optoelectronic devices.
