제목 | Fabrication of Optical Backplane Board Using Low-loss polymeric Tapered Waveguides |
초록 | We present an optical backplane, which is contained tapered waveguide embedded by using conventional multilayer board process. We investigated the attenuation and data transmission characteristics of polymeric waveguides for optical backplane applications. The waveguided embedded optical backplane boards are fabricated using low-loss polymeric tapered waveguide. The core size of tapered waveguide is 100 x 60 μm (input section), 60 x 60 μm (output section), and produced by hot embossing process. The propagation loss of tapered waveguide was 0.1 dB/cm at 850nm. The tapered waveguide yields the benefit of low required alignment accuracy for the coupling between waveguide and backplane. We prepared a novel embedded optical backplane with polymeric waveguide by using conventional multilayer lamination processes. The attenuation of the optical backplane was also investigated. The average attenuation was 1.25 dB for adjacent 4-channel waveguides at length of 5 cm. The uniform attenuation characteristics verified that the optical backplane was successfully laminated. |
