제목 | Synthesis and photoelectrochemical properties of TiO2/ITO core-sheath nanowire-based photoelectrodes |
초록 | We report the synthesis and photoelectrochemical (PEC) studies of TiO2/ITO core-sheath nanowire-based photoelectrodes. ITO nanowires were directly fabricated on a fluorine-doped tin oxide conducting (FTO) substrates by a thermal co-evaporation method at low temperature (<550oC). In order to apply the ITO nanowire-based electrodes for PEC system, uniform TiO2 nanoparticles with anatase phase was deposited into the voids between ITO nanowires by a chemical bath deposition (CBD) method. Morphology and crystal structure of synthesized ITO nanowires and TiO2/ITO core-sheath nanowires were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD), and their optical absorption property was measured by light absorbance spectrometry. We further evaluated the photoelectrochemical performance of both TiO2/ITO thin films electrode and TiO2/ITO nanowire-based photoelectrodes. The photocurrent density of fabricated device was 2 orders of magnitude larger than device with ITO thin films electrode under illumination (I = 100 mW/cm2). This result is attributed to large amount of adsorbed photosensitizer by wide surface area of ITO NWs and photo-induced electron collection without loss by high electrical conductivity of ones. These novel nano-architectured photoelectrodes based on TiO2/ITO core-sheath nanowires were shown to act as an efficient photoanodes for the photoelectrochemical water splitting reaction. |
