In this study, we investigated the effect of ozone treatment on the surface properties of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in terms of fracture toughness (KIC) and cracking resistance of SWCNTs / CFs / epoxy multi-scale composites. We focused on the dispersion and interfacial adhesion synergistic effects of ozone-treated SWCNTs (O-SWCNTs) in epoxy matrix and carbon fibers, mechanical properties of the prepared composites were investigated according to weight ratio of O-SWCNTs. The surface characteristics of ozone-treated SWCNTs (O-SWCNTs) were investigated by FT-IR, XPS, SEM and TEM. In addition, the mechanical properties of multi-scale composites by ozone treatment was determined by KIC, GIC and ILSS. Ozone treatment, an environmentally friendly and simple method, suggests a way to improve the mechanical properties of multi-scale composites and modify the surface properties of O-SWCNTs. |
