In this study, a gemini type reactive surfactants were synthesized. The surfactants has a functional group capable of acting as a monomer in the polymerization and an emulsifier. Polyoxyethylene (5, 10, 15, 20) cetyl ether and maleic acid were used. The structure of the synthesized surfactants was confirmed by FT-IR and 1H-NMR. The surface tension, critical micelle concentration, HLB, foaming height and emulsion stability were evaluated to confirm the physical properties of the synthetic compounds according to the alkyl chain length. The critical micelle concentration is 1.62 × 10-4 to 5.13 × 10-4 mol/L, and the surface tension at the critical micelle concentration is 25.51 to 32.15 mN/m. HLB value of 11 ~ 16 is expected to be applied as an O/W emulsifier. The foaming height was improved with increasing alkyl chain length and emulsion stability was the best in monomer. |
