Molecular Self-Assembly from Small Molecules and Liquid Crystals to Macromolecules |
제목 |
Creation of a superhydrophobic surface from a sublimed smectic liquid crystal |
초록 |
Recently, it was found that small molecular weight LC materials can be thermally sublimated in the smectic LC phase, in which a certain amount of LC materials are removed layer by layer. At the same time, a partial reorganization of smectic LC assembly occurs, forming the transformed nano-scale interfaces in resisting the surface tension of fluid smectic phase, resulting that multi hemi cylinder (MHC) patterns are formed. Here, we have demonstrated that superhydrophobic surface was manipulated using silicon a square-type pillar patterned substrate with this smectic LC material, resulting in high CA, ~150 o and a certain hysteresis angle, ~9o. This can be achieved by the conformal formation of TFCDs on the patterned substrates during thermal sublimation to generate hierarchical MHC pattern. |
