제목 Effects of Solvent on the Intercalation and Exfoliation Behavior of Clay in the Synthesis of Poly(methylmethacrylate)/Montmorillonite Clay Nanocomposites
초록 PMMA/MMT nanocomposites were synthesized via free radical polymerization of MMA in the presence of alkyl ammonium substituted polysilsesquioxane(POSS) surfactant-modified clay and AIBN in scCO2/EtOH. The reactions were also conducted by adding a water to observe the solvent effects for the intercalation and exfoliation behavior of the nanocomposites. MMT clay was initially cation exchanged with the surfactant to enhance its hydrophobicity and to expand the interlamellar spaces of silicate platelets. Organophilization with the surfactant and water molecules reduce surface energy of the clay which promotes miscibility of the nanocomposites. The intercalation and dispersion of clay were quantified by both XRD and TEM. The alkyl ammonium substituted POSS surfactant not only acts as a suitable surface modifier but also enhances thermal and mechanical properties. ifferent distribution of clay also plays an important role in physical properties. TGA and DSC were employed to investigation.
