제목 An organic/inorganic barrier thin film using PSSQ for flexible displays
초록 Physical vapor deposition of oxide layer on a plastic substrate can be used as barrier film, since the high packing density of the oxide impedes gas molecules to penetrate in the reduced free volume between molecular bonds. However, film quality and adhesion might be directly altered by the surface morphology and low energy of the plastic substrate, and dense oxide layers are easily damaged by internal and bending stresses. In this study, we used modified polysilsesquioxane (m-PSSQ) as a buffer layer between the oxide barrier film and the plastic substrate. The presence of ethyl groups in the polymer main backbone favored stress relaxation in the structure, and high energy dangling OH bonds promoted adhesion with the oxide layer during the deposition stage. This approach led to films with excellent transparency and lower water vapor transmission rate.
