Exceptionally-porous aerogel materials with very small pore sizes and large surface areas were synthesized. A series of inorganic aerogels were synthesized using sol-gel processing and supercritical carbon dioxide drying. To overcome disadvantages of these materials, associated from their poor mechanical properties, we prepared hybrid aerogels by combination of polymeric and inorganic materials or purely polymeric aerogels using various polymeric materials such as polyimide, polyurea or polyurethane. The adequate amount of polymeric materials should be introduced not to cover all the pores in the structure. The pore size, morphology and surface area of aerogels were investigated by SEM, TEM and BET measurements. We also attempted these materials to be applied for energetic or electronic applications. |
