Chitosan is a biocompatible and abundantly available biopolymer. For a wider range of applications we provided electroconductivity to chitosan hydrogels using the following two methods. In the first method, a polypyrrole-chitosan composite hydrogel is prepared. The aqueous solution of chitosan is prepared in an acidic pH. Then, the mixture of chitosan, pyrrole and ammonium persulfate is stirred on magnetic stirrer until it turns black. The complete mixture was ionically cross-linked using TPP solution. In the second method, PVA fibers obtained by solution spinning were arranged in a layer of mold, and subseqeuntly filled with chitosan solution crosslinked by TPP solution. Finally the internal pore walls of PVA-chitosan composite were coated with graphene by dipping in graphene solution, which provided electroconductivity. Providing electroconductivity to hydrogels can preserve both the electroactivity and the biocompatibility of chitosan. This approach may have potential for biomedical applications. |
