Synthesis Well-Defined Poly(styrene)-b-Poly(2-vinyl pyridine)-b-Poly(n-hexylisocyanate) by Using Anionic Polymerization |

A well-defined amphiphilic coil-coil-rod triblock copolymers of styrene (St), 2-vinylpyridine (2VP) and n-hexyl isocyanate (HIC) were synthesized with quatitative yields by living anionic polymerization. The homopolymerization of St was carried out at -78 oC in THF by using second butyllithium (S-BuLi) as an initiator. Reactivity of living polystyryl ion was reduced by adding small amount of diphenylethylene(DPE) and then block copolymerization of it with 2VP was performed at -78 oC. Triblock copolymerization with HIC was performed at -98 oC in the presence of sodium tetraphenylborate (NaBPh4) to prevent backbiting reactions during isocyanate polymerization. We obtained copolymer with a controlled molecular weight and narrow molecular weight distribution. The self-organization of the copolymer was checked in different solvents and solvents mixture. The obtained copolymer was characterized by 1H NMR and SEC-LS. |
