In nature, many of organisms express eye-catching colors produced by molecular pigments or biological nanostructures. The latter mechanism, termed as structural color, has been actively studied in the field of biomimicry. Their translation into sensor system provides simple, portable, and on-site availability. However, lack of inherent affinity of biomimetic materials results poor selectivity toward target of interest, and introducing active motif still remains a challenge. Here, we report development of peptide amphiphile based structural color matrices and its utilization into sensor system. Amine-rich peptide amphiphiles(ARPA) undergo supramolecular self-assembly into peptide nanofibers and consequently form fibrous networks exhibiting distinctive color through “self-templating assembly” process. Also, Structural color matrices were exposed to aldehyde gases and change their color in dose-dependent and selective manner. |
