Polylactone polymers are biodegradable, biocompatible and non-toxic materials and thus they are important, for example, in the area of the controlled drug-release devices, absorbable sutures, medical implants for orthopedic use, disposable degradable plastic articles and scaffolds for tissue engineering. Many elements of metal and non-metal have been used as catalytic centers for the lactone polymerization; however, examples of Ti complexes are quite rare. In this study, two classes of titanium complexes, titanium chlorides of indanol-schiff base ligand and titanium isoproxides of salicylamine, were prepared, characterized and tested for the ROP of ε-caprolactone (CL). Both catalytic systems showed high activities in living polymerization manner. Interestingly, the former case did not require any initiator such as benzylalcohol in ROP of CL. The detail studies of ROP of cyclic esters will be discussed. |
