제목 Synthesis of biodegradable cationic cellulose nanofibrils as an alternative of conventional cationic surfactants
초록 Petrochemical cationic surfactants have shown poor biodegradability, giving rise to accumulation in the aquatic environment. This study was designed to address a novel cationic surfactant, derived from bacterial cellulose nanofibrils, with better biocompatibility. For this, bacterial cellulose (BC) was charged cationically with glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride (GTAC). To enhance amphiphilicity of amine-functionalized BC (ABC), we added 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) using silane-coupling reaction, following the alkylation with stearic acid. The rheological analysis confirmed that C18-ABC generated a fibrillary membrane at the O/W interface and stabilized microemulsion droplets. We also observed CLSM images to highlight the sufficient adhesion of C18-ABC to hair strands. Therefore, we substantiate that natural-based C18-ABC is estimated to have the potential to be an alternative to conventional cationic surfactants with desired interface tunability.
