Frame retardants containing halogen components are widely applied to polymer materials since they effectively reduce the flammability of polymers and are not expensive. However, highly toxic materials are effluent when the halogen materials are burned. We try to replace halogen flame retardants for polyurethane with various non- or less-toxic and environmentally benign flame retardants. In this presentation, the effect of nanoclay on the flame retardancy of polyurethane will be demonstrated. We will present the flammability of the polyurethane synthesized with the raw materials that were modified at various conditions with nanoclay. The polyurethane synthesized from the modified raw materials has viscosity between 35,000 to 50,000 cps, which is required to perform further processes. The physical properties, including thermal stability, of the polyurethane are presented. |
