제목 바이오에탄올 생산을 위한 최적 전처리 공정 설계
초록 The current and projected shortage of fossil fuel availability has led to the ever-increasing interest in the conversion of renewable lignocellulosic resources to liquid fuels. In particular, cellulosic ethanol is the most widely used liquid biofuel alternative to petroleum transportation fuels. An effective approach for ethanol production is to break down the cellulose and hemicellulose chains, which comprise 60~70% of biomass, into their component sugars and then ferment monomeric sugars into ethanol. In other words, the biological conversion of fuel ethanol from lignocellulosic biomass can be achieved by pretreatment, enzymatic hydrolysis and fermentation. Among this conversion unit processes, the pretreatment is the key step for effective conversion and the research effort in pretreatment has been extensive. This presentation will give an overview of pretreatment process options for effective bioconversion. Technical challenges in ethanol production will also be reviewed.
