Preparation and characterization of hydrophobic perlite/PVA hybrid composites using silane-modified binder |

In order to develop the high performance thermal insulating materials, hydrophobic-granted inorganic binders (HIB) were prepared by a silane modifying method. Effects of kinds of silane species on contact angle and thermal conductivity of HIB/hybrid composites were also investigated. The morphologies and structural properties of HIB were measured by SEM and XRD. It was found that the crystallinity of Si particles in HIB was increased after silane modifying. It was also found that the hydrophobicity (contact angle result) of composites enhanced after the treatment. This result concludes that the hydrophobicity and thermal conductivity of the composites can be controlled by the suitable silane modification in this system. |
