Surface modification of polymer film has been extensively performed using plasma exposure to change chemical or physical properties on a surface for hydrophilicity, biological activity, sensor, etc. The polymer film of poly (2-stannylthioethyl acrylate) was prepared through a photo polymerization of 2-mercaptoethyl acrylate and a triacrylate. The present work is related to chemical modification including surface derivation. Destannylation of the polymer film generated free -SH on the surface which is reactive to further chemical reaction. The treatment of chromophore with acrylic functionality on the activated polymer film proved the -SH generation and was observed with a UV spectrum. The content of surface -SH is controllable with a monomer ratio and quantitatively detected with the amount of binding chromophore. Various potential derivations will be discussed with a poly (2-mercaptoethyl acrylate) film. |
